Upgrade units 3, 4 and 5 to bring the thirty plus year old equipment at the utility into compliance. Due to the short outage time frame and limited workspace Southern Environmental, Inc. created a unique construction plan that would overcome these challenges and provide the utility with the optimum solution to their air pollution control needs.
Southern Environmental’s Solution:
Southern Environmental, Inc. utilized their 20 plus years of experience to design and install alternative construction methods due to the limited workspace. By installing four over-head bridge cranes encompassing the three units and assembling major components on the ground, SEI was able to stay within the requested outage time frame and provide safe, state of the art service. Due to the compressed area between units, SEI increased the height of the collecting plates in order to accommodate the increased gas flow.

Scope of Work:
Southern Environmental, Inc. provided detailed engineering, material supply, fabrication, construction and start-up services to rebuild the ESPs for Units 3, 4, and 5. All three units were outfitted with new internal components bringing them into compliance. Each unit was designed based on its scope which varied slightly. Varying levels of hopper scope were included on each unit as well as plenum and ductwork modifications. New materials included incoming power transformers and switchgear, hopper cones, structural steel, casing, internals, all roof and power equipment as well as full weather enclosures. SEI’s S3 technology was utilized to achieve increased collection efficiencies. By self-performing all of the mechanical construction, engineering design, and steel fabrication SEI had complete control of the quality and schedule with this project.
The particulate emissions from the new particulate collection system will not exceed 0.030 lb/mmBTU with opacity below 10%.
